I'm not against refs, but when people completely COPY and image that's when it gets to me. And then they don't credit the original photo... I mean comeon! You completely ripped everything off a photograph and then basiclly said you did it yourself. Credit the photographers and the image you copied for crying out loud!
Me and Elz were earching through Devart today, and found a ton of images that weren't credited, that had obviously been copied from a reference. No imagination involved whatsoever. It's fustrating, because without 'references' (*cough photographs to copy from*, these 'artists' appear to have little or no talent whatsoever.
I'm not against references before you swing your axe; I am fine with them if you use them in an imaginative manner, for example, you only need to search 'natalie portman' to see ten thousand images of her looking timid in a hat.
And my point is? If people don't stop copying photographs, the internet will be flooded with nothing more than replicas of photographs now, I wouldn't call it art myself. It's such a shame anything original is hardly looked at, and the majority now consists of uncredited, copied images. Sooner or later the internet's art base will become a mass of clones of photographs, maybe it already is.
'Grats to those of you who still have the imagination to work from your own brain and resources, those who can use a reference as an aid rather than relying on it, using your imagination and creativity alongside it, because right now it feels that 99% of deviantat is full of replicas of photographs. (That aren't credited, or linked to properly... Lol, i got this ref from THIS SITE, note i didn't link to the actual image)
You are an artist, not a photocopier.
